Criminal code charges were up 7 percent compared to 2023.
WOODSTOCK - It was a busy year for the Woodstock Police in 2024.
Last year, officers laid 1,441 criminal code charges, provincial offences came in at 2,087, a total of 103 impaired driving charges were laid, and there were 1,415 arrests. Inspector of Operations, Jamie Taylor explains how that compares to 2023.
"Some of the stats that I would like to highlight is our criminal code charges were up 7 percent, our speeding enforcement and other provincial stats was up 33 percent, our impaired driving was up 30 percent, our community patrol, which include the downtown on foot and bike patrol was up 680 hours, and our drug seizers were very impressive again, similar to 2023."
Officers seized $672,380 worth of fentanyl, $235,606 worth of methamphetamine, $285,350 worth of cocaine, and $49,908 cash during drug busts last year.
Taylor says WPS officers are doing everything than can to protect the Friendly City.
"The stats reflect our commitment to public safety, that we will continue to be proactive and respond to the needs of our community, and dedicated to keeping Woodstock a safe place to work, live and visit."
Taylor says the work of the officers will continue to top notch.
