The Mayor of Ingersoll says the Canterbury Folk Festival proves it's possible to hold a large event without producing waste.
INGERSOLL - The Mayor of Ingersoll is hoping to spread the Transition to Less Waste message to all of Oxford County.
He has submitted a notice of motion to have County staff work with the Transition to Less Waste team work with County staff. Ted Comiskey tells Heart FM the idea would be to create a document that can easily be shared across the County.
"Whether it's a family reunion, whether it's a company meeting or whether it's a municipal festival, that they are aware that you do not need to produce waste to have it happen."
Comiskey says the transition to Less Waste Team has been working with the Canterbury Folk Festival for years making it an almost completely waste free event. The three day free music festival just hosted thousands of people last weekend and only created less than 1 bag of garbage.
Comiskey adds if Canterbury proves anything, it is that we are more than capable of having these type of functions without placing a burden on the landfill.
"We have the technology, we have the brains, we have the energy to say hey, we can operate, go through our life without having to bury our waste. Canterbury Folk Festival is the largest festival in Oxford County and if that festival with thousands of people can produce 1 bag of garbage, than certainly all of the functions we have throughout the year can go to zero waste."
