According to some OPP statistics nearly a quarter of fatal collisions are caused by failure to stop or yield at intersections.
Perth County OPP have launched the stop and look campaign and will be targeting local intersections.
Police will be handing out tickets for those who fail to stop at a red lights and amber lights along with drivers who are disobeying stop signs. Constable Kees Wijands tells Heart FM why they have launched this campaign.
"Our statistics indicate that about 1/4 of our fatal collisions are caused by failing to stop or yielding at intersections. The interesting part about that is about 95% of them occur during daylight hours when road conditions are good and driving conditions appear to be excellent."
Wijlands says they will be looking at 13 specific intersections in the County.
"We will be at intersections where historically we have seen major collisions and we have had public complaints about, so these are our troubled intersections to start with we will be concentrating on those and of course, just in our general patrols we will be keeping an eye on all the other stop sign controlled intersections."
The campaign will run until Friday.
