Mayor Acchione talked about upcoming budget presentations and proposed a friendly wager with Norwich Mayor Jim Palmer.
WOODSTOCK - We're in the home stretch of revenue budget season in Woodstock.
Council got to witness budget presentations from the city's departments last Tuesday and Thursday. However, the presentations for the Woodstock Police Service, the Woodstock Public Library, and the Woodstock Art Gallery will be taking place during this Thursday's city council meeting.
Mayor Jerry Acchione explains what the next step will be afterward.
"March 19th is when everything is brought together and council will have the opportunity to debate the different items, bring some of these additions to base budget to our council meeting for discussion and a vote."
The City is looking at a 2.9 percent increase if just the base budget is approved. This means everything would continue as is, and nothing new would be added. If council decides to approve all of the items that are being proposed, it's an increase of 6.81 percent.
This Thursday's City Council meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. and it will be livestreamed on the City of Woodstock YouTube page. You can also find the meeting agenda online here. The city council meeting on Thursday, March 19th have a 7:00 p.m. start time and it will be livestreamed as well.
Outside of City Hall, Mayor Acchione is excited to cheer on the Woodstock Navy Vets in their upcoming semifinal series against the Norwich Merchants.
Both teams advanced to the next round of the playoffs over the weekend, and Mayor Acchione suggested a friendly wager with Norwich Mayor Jim Palmer during his interview on the Heart FM Morning Show today.
"The loser has to wear the other person's jersey at Oxford County Council, at the following meeting!"
The two mayors sit beside each other in council chambers, which would make victory that much sweeter for the one who wins.
Mayor Acchione also discussed the following during his interview this morning:
- The Coldest Night of the Year in Woodstock this past Saturday.
- An upcoming urbanization project for Pittock Park Road.
- Some land on Woodall Way that could be sold to a developer.
- Where the Taco Bell will be located once it's opens in Woodstock.
