Pride, Respect, Identity, Safety and Mentoring or Prism is a new program offered by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford matching LGBTQ2IA+ youth with an adult mentor.
WOODSTOCK - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County is set to launch a new program on Saturday.
The Pride, Respect, Identity, Safety and Mentoring or Prism program will match self identifying LGBTQ2IA+ youth in our community with an adult mentor who also identifies as LGBTQ2IA+. Executive Director Kristen Ralph says they are really excited to launch the program during Pride Family Day.
"And what better way to officially launch the program, then to be out there with all the families, being able to provide information about the program. We will have the Trillium Foundation out there, who are funding the program, be there to be able to witness what is happening in Oxford County and present us with our official plaque."
Ralph says she thinks this program will have a lot of benefits for the LGBTQ2IA+ youth in our community.
"It gives them a chance to talk to people who are part of their community and build lasting relationships and give them somebody that they can talk to, who has lived experiences."
Prism will officially launch on Saturday at 11:30 at Museum Square. Peter Fleming, an Ontario Trillium Foundation volunteer, will formally present BBBS Oxford with a plaque at the event to recognize the new program as a result of receiving a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
LGBTQ2IA+ stands for L=Lesbian, G=Gay, B=Bi-sexual, T=Transgender, Q=Queer, 2= 2 spirits which is an indigenous person who also identifies as LBGTQ, I=Intersex and A=Ally.
