The New York Islanders are planning to move their AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Islanders, from Connecticut to Hamilton for the 2026/2027 season. They would play out of TD Coliseum, which is a newly renovated 18,000 seat arena.
The Hamilton Bulldogs were an AHL team from 1996 to 2015, originally affiliated with the Edmonton Oilers before joining forces with the Montreal Canadiens. The franchise moved to St. John's, Newfoundland in 2015, where it's currently known as the St. John's IceCaps.
The Hamilton Bulldogs OHL team was born when owner Michael Andlauer acquired the Belleville Bulls and moved the franchise to Hamilton. The team was moved to the Brantford Civic Centre was rebranded the Brantford Bulldogs in 2023 due to renovations at Hamilton's FirstOntario Centre. It was supposed to be a temporary move, but the team's new owners, Edmonton Oilers forward Zach Hyman and his family, signed a 15-year deal with the city earlier late last year so the team can stay in Brantford.
