Meteorologist Trudy Kidd says we could have warmer than normal temperatures this spring, but it's hard to tell what we'll get for precipitation.
OXFORD - Spring is in the air in Oxford County today.
The spring equinox will happen at 10:46 a.m. and Environment Canada Meteorologist Trudy Kidd gives us a sneak peak of what we can expect over the next few days.
"We certainly have a bit of a warm stretch at least for the coming days and into the weekend. But at the start of the week next week, that's when we're on the normal to below normal side and it stays like that up until the start of April."
The average daytime high is plus 6 for this time of the year and the average day low is minus 6.
Environment Canada actually considers March 1st to be the first day of spring. It looks at the seasons as different months to make it easier for research purposes, so spring is consists of March, April, and May from a meteorologists point of view.
The arrival of spring from the astrological and meteorological standpoint doesn't necessarily mean we're done with the snow just yet. Kidd says the Woodstock area usually gets about 30 centimetres of snow in March and close to 10 centimetres in April.
"Spring does not mean this sudden switch into summer-like weather, it's such a changeable time of the year. There is an undeniable upward trend in temperatures during this season, but it is never smooth and never gradual."
Kidd says you should keep a close eye on the most up to date forecasts from Environment Canada before you decide to take the snow tires off your vehicle.
