Life has changed for the former General Manager of the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce Martha Dennis since she was charged with fraud and theft over $5,000.
WOODSTOCK - The former General Manager of the Woodstock Chamber was expected in court today on charges of theft and fraud over $5,000.
Martha Dennis was charged after the Chamber of Commerce accused her of misappropriation of the Chamber's assets for expenses not related to the Chamber. It was expected the case might of actually been closed today, however it was put over until August 27th. The Crown is expected to release new information, likely determining the restitution amounts.
The case is expected to come to a close on August 27th with a plea and restitution. Martha Dennis was not in court today, however Sabrina Storm did catch up with her at her last appearance earlier this month. At the hearing today the Judge said there will be a bench warrant with discretion to the adjournment.
When asked to comment, Martha Dennis made the following comments.
"I do regret what I did. I know I lost the respect of the community, I understand that. However, I do hope that some of the good that I accomplished will be remembered. I helped build a diverse and inclusive chamber for the betterment of the community, a community that I lived in and loved for many years."
Although reluctant to talk, Dennis did discuss her fears for how all of this will affect her family now and in the future. She spoke about being a proud mother and grandmother and it is her family that has kept her spirits up during her "difficult time in the court process."
Justice is often served outside of the courts as well. For Dennis, her entire life has changed. Dennis currently works in a small retail shop and as a nanny.
