Getting up to $1000 to help get a new business off the ground is now possible in Oxford County.
OXFORD COUNTY - Getting up to $1000 to help get a new business off the ground is now possible in Oxford County. Community Futures Oxford recently awarded the grant for young entrepreneurs to a new tech start up called Gym Fleet.
Community Development Economic Coordinator, Linsday Wilson says exploring the world before starting a business in Oxford County is ideal.
"For these young entrepreneurs, the grants that we have given, all of them have been to someone who is from Oxford County, left and then came back to start a business."
The grant recipient is Oxford County native Ethan Williams and his business partner Evan McHugh (also from Oxford County), owners of GymFleet. Gym Fleet’s founder, Williams, has been chipping away at his idea for a number of years and is ready to launch the website and application that creates multi-facility access for independent gyms/fitness studios and their members. The business of two hope to expand to a staff of ten by the end of the year
Wilson says that she is amazed by the number of people that have no idea what exists in our community to support entrepreneurs.
"People tend to think things like this can't happen here but they can, we have lots of supports and connections both in and outside of Ingersoll to help young people make these things happen, I think Gym Fleet is a really great example of that."
The grant began in 2016, since then, 9 other entrepreneurs under the age of 30 have received it. Originally the grants were part of an Ontario Trillium project, but Community Futures Oxford saw the value of the grants and have continued to offer them.
