False 9-1-1 Calls Hit Norfolk County

Over 1,100 calls have been made to the OPP. The Norfolk Detachment is investigating after responding to a call yesterday at 12:15 a.m.

DELHI - The Norfolk OPP is investigating over 1,000 9-1-1 calls that have been made.

Yesterday (Monday, April 22nd), officers responded to a hangup call at 12:15 a.m. from a location on James Street in Delhi. A thorough sweep of the area resulted in no emergency being seen. It was said between 12:15 a.m. and 9:05 a.m. close to 1,150 similar calls were made, and no emergencies were involved.

Any false calls to the OPP could lead to charges of public mischief. The calls take away resources and time needed for real emergencies, possibly endangering someone's life. This goes to highlight the importance of using 9-1-1 correctly.
