Don't expect to get off with a warning if Woodstock Police catch you driving distracted this summer.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police will be cracking down on Distracted Driving this summer.
They are teaming up with the Ontario Ministry of transportation campaign #putdownthephone. Constable Nikki VanLeeuwen says texting and driving is one of the most dangerous things on the roads right now.
"I think it worst than impaired driving, really, I mean if your not looking at the road for one second it can cause a collision, if you look at the statistics right now distracted driving has actually exceeded impaired driving in terms of collisions."
Police will be doing blitzes throughout the summer with the first one starting next week. There will be plain clothes officers, extra traffic officers and bike patrol officers conducting intensive distracted driving enforcement. VanLeeuwen talks about one of the worst cases of distracted driving she has experienced on the road.
"It was about two in the morning, I was on patrol and there were not a lot of vehicles on the road and a female driver drove up on a sidewalk and she was driving towards me, she was texting and driving and when I pulled her over she was actually impaired as well."
