Cami Layoffs Delayed

Layoffs at the Cami plant in Ingersoll have been pushed back to August at the earliest in light of a heavy workload.

INGERSOLL - Employees impacted by the upcoming layoffs at the Ingersoll Cami Plant now have a little longer to find another job.

625 employees were expected to be laid off as of July 3rd, but that has been delayed. Plant Chair for Unifor Local 88 Mike Van Boekel explains why.

"They have delayed the layoffs until the end of August at the earliest. We're just too busy right now; it's a good thing but I would say overall the mood in the plant is pretty sour."

Van Boekel says the employees have been notified.

"They individually notified the bottom 625 and they have not issued any rescind letters yet we are hoping they do fairly soon so at least 225 that we know are going to be safe. After that it will be touch and go."

Van Boekel hopes only 400 jobs will be impacted by the layoffs in the end. Employees of over five years have been offered retirement or buyout packages, but the other employees have nothing.
