Campaign season has already started in Oxford County as we get set for a Federal Election this fall.
INGERSOLL - The NDP has chosen their candidate for Oxford County for the upcoming Federal Election.
20 year old Matthew Chambers is the only candidate to officially toss a hat in the race from the major parties so far. We still haven't heard from Conservative incumbent Dave Mackenzie if he plans to run again.
Chambers has previously worked as the campaign manager for the NDP during the Provincial election. He breaks down, what he see's as the key issues for our area.
"You've got supply management, you've got Pharmacare and you've got trade, in the automotive sector especially."
Chambers says the NDP is the party best suited to deal with the major issues in Oxford County.
"Well our track record speaks for itself. We were the first party to continuously support supply management, we vigorously defend it when it is eroded away in trade negotiations and used as nothing more than a cheap bargaining chip. As for the automotive sector, we have been pushing for years for a National auto strategy, which will encourage new automotive jobs to come to Canada and stay in Canada. As for Pharmacare, we have the best Pharmacare plan in recent history. It is a plan that would save Canadians over $500 per year and over $4.2 billion dollars nationwide."
Chambers explains how he can win a riding that has been held by Dave Mackenzie and the Conservatives since 2004.
"We really want to show people our grassroots ideas. We don't get big campaign contributions from corporations or from big party spenders, New Democrats are no strangers to having to do more with less. We look forward to the challenge, I myself, I enjoy a good fight and I think we are in for a good fight."
Chambers has lived his whole life in the County and currently lives in Ingersoll. He is the youngest person to ever challenge for a Federal seat in Oxford County.
