Woodstock Public Library Launches Summer Programming

The Woodstock Public Library will be offering a variety of online programs and activities this summer.

WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Public Library is ready to launch a variety of free virtual programs for children and teens this summer.

Families can join the online TD Summer Club to read books, complete challenges and earn badges. The library also has Baby Rhyme Time at Home with your infant on their YouTube channel. This program features stories, rhymes and songs for babies from Teen Librarian Heather.

Then in August the Library will offer Walking Wonders, an in person program that starts outside the library with a stroller walk to a local park for a socially distance story time for babies and caregivers.

Manager of Public Services Darlene Pretty says you can register for all of their zoom summer programs right now.

"We have a great line up of craft programs for children aged 3 to 13 years. We have found a fun way to incorporate hands-on fun with virtual instruction for children and teens this summer. Each week, drop by the library to pick up your free craft kit and then visit our YouTube channel to watch our staff demonstrate the craft. Craft kits are limited, but feature simple supplies you can find at home. Check our website regularly at www.mywpl.ca for other great program posts such as virtual escape rooms or an I Spy Challenge. For creative writers there is a Writing Contest in July for children aged 8-11 years and a poetry writing contest for teens aged 12-16 years. Entries will be judged by local children and teen writer, Vikki Vansickle."

The Library also has a What's Cooking YouTube program that starts on July 13th. They will also have virtual field trips to Bird Kingdom and the Great Oxford Road Trip to different local museums.

In August, teens between the ages of 10-14 can join Hogwarts Summer School or join the What's Cooking demonstrations for teens from Chef Heather.

Pretty says it has been great to welcome families back to the library this week.

"We are seeing people come back to the library, it is wonderful, we are seeing families return to the library to get their books and they're asking about our great summer programs, including our free summer reading program."

The library also offers in person technology training through their book a librarian program.
