Adrian Couwenberg is currently the Ward 4 Councillor for Norwich Township and he has decided to run for Mayor.
NORWICH TOWNSHIP - The Ward 4 Councillor for Norwich Township is eyeing a different seat in Council Chambers.
Adrian Couwenberg has decided to run for Mayor after his first term as a councillor was a success.
"I was very frustrated with our gravel roads and the lack of maintenance and repairs to them. We're moving forward and staff is doing a great job now! We have a cost saving road conversion program in place."
He says his first term on council was very eye-opening, and he had to take in a lot of information, adjustments and procedures.
Couwenberg says township council has been very transparent when it comes to procedures and finances, and he would like to bring that to the county level.
"Last year, they used up some of their reserves to support the budget, so I believe this year going forward it's going to be a considerable tax hike. In Norwich Township we have always fought to control our spending, but I didn't see that in Oxford County Council. So I would like to have a seat on Oxford County Council to bring that financial stability to Oxford County."
Outside of council chambers, Couwenberg is a life-long resident of Norwich Township and a retired CAMI employee. He supports a hog and poultry farm and he also does some concrete work on the side, but he's ready to let that go if he's elected this fall.
The municipal election is scheduled for October 26th.
