TORONTO - Woodstock Police were proud to join students from CASS at the Inaugural Special Olympics Invitational Youth Games in Toronto.
Athletes competed in several sports hosted by the Toronto Police Service from May 14th-17th. The Law Enforcement Torch Run representative from the Woodstock Police Service, Deb Klemp, joined officers from around the world including Australia and Alaska, last week to support the local Woodstock basketball team from College Avenue Secondary School (CASS) participating in the games.
Tuesday afternoon consisted of 304 police officers running through the streets of Toronto into the opening ceremonies at the Metro Convention Centre. This is the largest group of officers to date to participate in Special Olympics opening ceremonies. These officers then cheered on the many athletes during their events at these games.
Klemp was fortunate enough and honoured to present the CASS basketball team with their ribbons as well as the medals and ribbons to athletes from across Canada.
“I have had the pleasure of attending many of these Law Enforcement Torch Run Special Olympic events and each one reminds me of why this partnership is so important to Law Enforcement and athletes alike. Being able to support and cheer on CASS during their games was heartwarming, as our local team through much determination, left their hearts on the court. The city of Woodstock and CASS should be very proud of this team lead by coach Jaimen.”
