Woodstock City Council has hired a contractor to build the new addition at the Woodstock Fire Hall.
WOODSTOCK - You can expect to see a lot of work done at the Woodstock Fire Hall this year.
City Council has hired Abcott Construction Ltd to build a two story expansion at the front of the building. They will also construct a new truck bay and work space on the west side.
Acting Fire Chief Jeff Slager says they're hoping to have most of the work done before the end of the year.
"We're not doing anything to the existing structure, so we're able to keep going so they're not going to have to work around us. A lot of those challenges that sometimes come in with that type of project we will be able to avoid."
Slager says this project has been years in the making.
"For about the past six years we've gone through a few revisions of this. This latest plan - the plan that was approved - was probably put forward about two and a half years ago. It was presented in the 2016 capital (budget) and approved at that point; it's just taken us this time to finish it off."
City Council awarded a construction contact $2,003,320.50 at last night's council meeting.
