Oxford County Council's agenda had three points related to the Homelessness Support Centre, which resulted in lots of discussion.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Homelessness Support Centre was a major topic on the Oxford County Council agenda.
During their meeting today, it was a topic that took up a lot of time, and Warden Marcus Ryan explained everything that was discussed relating to the Homelessness Support Centre.
"Yeah, three things on the agenda today to do with the Homeless Support Center. One was a delegation from residents around the area of the new location. Two was a report from staff on all the public input that we've received so far. And three was a notice of motion to pause all work on the Homeless Support Centre."
Warden Ryan says the delegation gave 6 items they wanted to be addressed. He said the motion to pause the Centre was defeated by a vote of 9 to 1, with Councillor Tait being the only vote in favour. He also mentioned what council directed staff to do with the report going forward.
"The direction that was given by council to staff was to consult with the community group and the broader community on this further."
Warden Ryan went on to say that they planned on continuing to get feedback from the community and groups in and around the location of the Centre to make sure everyone is on the same page.
