Woodstock Fire Dept. Going Under Review

Is there cost savings to be found in the Woodstock Fire Department? A consultant will be hired to find the answer to that question. City Council approved a fire department review, back in March, and last Thursday, council approved putting a tender out for a consultant, specializing in fire services. The call for a review stems from a motion that was passed back during budget deliberations in March. Fire Chief Scott Tegler says this review comes at a crucial time. "In light of looking at our community growth, and where we may be going, and the cost of the service being delivered, council wants to have a closer look at it." Meantime, council approved the Fire Chief's request for all new breathing apparatus for the department. 40 new units are being purchased at a cost of $300,000. They will replace the department's current units, that are on their last legs, at 15-years-old. Tegler says, "Once we looked at an analysis of our current equipment, and the age of it, it was felt it was better off to move forward and purchase all new equipment, to today's standards." The new breathing gear is being purchased from Woodstock-based ResQtech.
