Those who might need help with their finances have a new program offered to them.
OXFORD COUNTY - Social Planning Council Oxford has introduced a new program.
The organization rolled out Financial Empowerment and is looking to help individuals understand budgeting, credit, credit cards, their credit report, types of interest, debt and debt reduction, options instead of payday loans, and how to start small savings. Executive Director Audrey Price-Owen says a lot of research went into creating the program.
"The idea is to empower them with that information so that they're better able to make their financial decisions. And when they make their financial decisions for themselves, it removes the fear of another bill coming in. Maybe it helps them sleep better at night, but it also gives them an opportunity to manage money in a different way."
Price-Owen says sessions are open for everyone, but there will be a focus on helping low- and no-income individuals, those working in poverty, individuals with disabilities, seniors and youth. Board Chair, Marianne Park-Ruffin, says this is a county-wide program.
"Then we're willing to take it on the road, so to speak, and deliver this information so that it truly is a county effort. That's really important that we cover all the county, everywhere from Wright down to Tillsonburg."
The program will be delivered throughout the county on a rotating basis and to agencies whose clients would benefit from the information. If you think your community could benefit from a session, contact the Social Planning Council for more information.
