Two hours a week could make all the difference for a family coping with dementia.
The Alzheimer Society of Oxford is looking for people to share a little of their time through their Volunteer Companion Program.
Executive Director Shelley Green helped to develop this program that has volunteers spend two hours a week visiting with someone living with dementia.
"It also allows their family member to be out maybe doing grocery shopping for example - the essentials of life - or they might be able to take the time to meet a friend for coffee, go for an appointment, all those things, but also to have a break."
Green says anyone can take part in this - no prior experience is necessary.
"Some people are a bit apprehensive to get involved because they think, 'Well I don't have any dementia experience.' Dementia experience and knowledge is not required - we do a 12 hour training program and then we also do monthly ongoing support for our volunteers."
