Lots of people will hit up the Roth Park trail in support of VON Sakura House this Saturday.
OXFORD COUNTY - The 24th annual Hike for Hospice is coming to Woodstock.
It is a wonderful opportunity to come together to raise money, connect families, friends and supporters to celebrate and honor the lives of loved ones and raise awareness for local hospice palliative care services. This event raises essential operating funds for VON Oxford Sakura House, Oxford County's only 10-bed residential hospice.
Fund Development Coordinator Sariah Assing on what is expected this year.
"We are expecting about 300 to 400 people. And when they come out, we're expecting them to be able to walk for their loved ones. And, you know, if they have kids, it would be a nice family event. So, there's a kid's tent."
Manager of Fund Development Brittany Bratt talks about how much they are looking to raise.
"We actually upped our goal a little bit this year, we had normally set $100,000 goal, but we've upped it to 110 this year as things get more expensive for everybody, they get more expensive for us too."
Bratt says they have raised well over $97-thousand already this year. Over the last 23 years, the generosity of the sponsors, hikers and the Oxford County community, Hike for Hospice has raised over $1.6-million.
The event will be at Roth Park, and starts at 9:00 a.m. with registration, then the walk begins at 10:30 a.m. There are 1km, 5km, or 8km options.
