The Woodstock Navy Vets are about to start their first season in the GOHL and have announced their leadership group.

WOODSTOCK - We now know who will captain the ship for the Woodstock Navy Vets.

Will McGregor has been named captain for the upcoming season, which is the first for the Vets in the Greater Ontario Hockey League, as they make the jump to Junior B. McGregor is one of four returning players from the team's final season in Junior C last year. He played a significant role with the club last season and is known for his professionalism, maturity and relentless work ethic. McGregor leads through his actions. He never takes a shift off, is extremely difficult to play against and consistently stands up for his teammates.

Joining McGregor in the leadership group as Alternate Captains will be Will Wright, Kyle Arthur, Jaxon Boone and Jordan Jacobs. Wright and Arthur will wear the "A" on their chest for home games this season, and both are returning to the organization after strong seasons with the Navy Vets last year.

As for Boone and Jacobs, they will take on the role on the road. Boone played last season with the Mount Forest Patriots in the Provincial Junior Hockey League, and has made an impact in the dressing room right away. Lastly, Jacobs spent last season in the PJHL with the New Hamburg Firebirds, but is said to bring experience and maturity.

Head Coach Andy Bathgate has high praise when it comes to the leadership group.

"Will’s presence on the ice, leadership in the room, and selfless attitude make him an easy choice to represent our group for our first GOHL season. A tough guy to play against who leads by example, we’re hoping for big things out of Will and this entire group this season."

The Navy Vets get their season started tonight on the road in Listowel to take on the Cyclones, and will then have their home opener tomorrow as they welcome the Stratford Warriors to Southwood Arena.
