A VISA employee was able to stop a trusting Perth resident from becoming a "Microsoft" Virus Scam victim. Perth OPP say a woman received a call last Thursday from a man who said she had been the target of a "Microsoft" scam. The man, who spoke with an accent, told the woman he was calling from Microsoft and that she needed to purcahse a $150 upgrade for her computer. The lady gave her credit card information but was advised it had been declined. The man then contacted VISA directly by 3-way conference call in hopes they would process the request with her permission. The VISA representative told the resident it was a scam and refused to process the claim. The woman was issued a new credit card. Police are continuing to remind the public to be vigilant when they hand out personal information over the phone.
