Oxford County is bringing in the experts to explain how their new development will use 90 percent less energy.
WOODSTOCK - Oxford County is hosting a Speaker Series for residents to learn more about Passive House Standards.
Construction is about to start on the first ever Passive House standard multi-residential building in Woodstock. Manager of Housing Development Jamie Stephens says the information session is a chance for residents to get a better understanding of the Passive House Standard.
"Participants will learn first hand from experienced architects from the US, who have designed and constructed dozens of buildings that have achieved Passive House standard, which is an energy standard."
Passive House homes and buildings use 90% less energy than regular homes. Stephens says the presentation will allow residents to ask questions and learn more about the process.
"The questions that we are expecting to receive, is basically why are we doing this and how can we achieve higher efficiency buildings."
The event is happening on Monday May 7th from 1-4 pm at the Oxford County administration building. The information session will feature three guest speakers who have experience building homes and buildings to Passive House Standards. They are:
Adam Cohen, LEED AP, CPHC
Founder & Technical Director
Build Smart, LLC
Rob Leonard, VP, Production & Field Support
Build Smart, LLC
Tim McDonald, RA, CPHC
President, Onion Flats, LLC
In partnership with Oxford County, Passive House Canada is also offering high-performance design and construction foundation courses in Woodstock this May. Anyone in the building sector with interest in Passive House development can learn more about these multi-day courses and register online.
