Health Canada is expected to approve the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for the 5 to 11 age group this morning. There's also reports suggesting the federal government will ease some of the pandemic related border restrictions this afternoon.
CANADA - Health Canada is expected to approve the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for the 5 to 11 age group today.
A press conference is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. in Ottawa and Canada is also expecting an accelerated delivery of 2.9 million child-sized doses. This would be enough for every child in the 5 to 11 age group to receive their first dose of the pediatric vaccine. The doses are about one-third of the size of the vaccine given to people over the age of 12.
Another big announcement is also scheduled for 1:00 p.m. today. Federal officials are expected to remove the current measures at the border, requiring Canadian travellers to provide a negative COVID-19 test before returning home from short trips to the United States. This would only apply to those going visiting the U.S. for less then 72 hours. Those who stay longer will still have to provide a negative test result in order to return to Canada.
We'll provide more information on these announcements as they become available.
