Robots invaded Goff Hall Tuesday. The 6th Annual Youth Robotics Challenge saw 20 teams from the Thames Valley and London District School Boards. Co-Chair of the Challenge Ian Heikoop says it's a great learning experience for the students. "It's a great exercise in a real world sort of project where there's deadlines, trial and error, and failure and you learn from your failure and keep working with your product until you find something that works," said Heikoop. This year's challenge was the toughest challenge put out to date. It was to create a robot that could fasten a nut and bolt together. A group of girls from Life Christian Academy in Woodstock (in photo) were the team to beat. Amalea Barrett says the other groups had complicated designs. "I think that their ideas were more complex. We just stuck with a basic idea. When they got here, because of transportation, there's was kind of not working at first, so we stuck with our idea and it worked," said Barrett. There are many success stories of students who either went on to study robotics or secured jobs in the industry from this challenge.
