Firefighters in Thamesford are looking forward to a new Fire Hall that will accommodate the bigger trucks and provide a new training area.
THAMESFORD - Firefighters in Thamesford will get to move into their brand new state of the art facility before the end of the month.
Once everything is up and running they plan on inviting the community to an open house to check out the new facility. Fire Chief for Zorra Township John McFarland tells Heart FM why they needed a new Fire Hall.
"Well primarily we had outgrown our present facility that is there, it is a great spot and we just out grew it. Basically the trucks are getting bigger and the door sizes at the old facility wouldn't facilitate the new trucks."
McFarland adds the hall will also serve as the emergency operations centre for the Township of Zorra. The final bill on the new facility is still being tabulated however it was budgeted at just under 2 million dollars. McFarland says everyone is really excited to move into the new hall.
"It is going to provide us with a nice training area as well as facilities to house the three trucks and we have a new tanker truck on order that we will be receiving in mid summer. Everyone is really excited for the move, as you can imagine. The firefighters are really pumped about the whole deal - it's kind of like getting a new toy at Christmas."
