The event will look to raise awareness ahead of this year's run, scheduled for September 15th. A meeting will be held tomorrow inside the South Gate Centre for anyone looking to help out with this year's run.
WOODSTOCK - It's the 3rd annual Terry Fox Kickoff Campaign on Friday.
The event will be at the Upper Thames Brewing Company.
Co-Chair of the Terry Fox Run Woodstock, John Versaevel says it's being put on to raise awareness for the run.
"Come out for a good night. Come out for a fun evening with family and friends, support an unbelievably important cause. I'm really into the aspect of the Terry Fox Run and the Terry Fox Foundation so I think it's almost a given it's a great way to give back to the community. It's a great way to help look to fight a disease that affects a lot of us now, that's going to affect people in the future and everything we can do now to help albeit under the concerns of cancer in the future we should do."
Upper Thames and Todd's Dogs are co-hosting and they're donating part of the day proceeds to the run.
He says it is a family-friendly event and Terry Fox t-shirts will also be available for just $20.00, along with pledge sheets and more information on the event.
And before the campaign gets underway, a meeting will be held tomorrow inside the South Gate Centre for anyone looking to help out with this year's run. It starts at 7:00 pm.
Versaevel says they'll be at several events promoting for this year's run.
"They can expect to be given opportunities to, if they're interested, to volunteer with the Terry Fox Run for this summer. We do a number of events and so obviously we need people to help with that, and so basically anyone who has any great interest in supporting the community, supporting cancer research, come out, listen, and if you want, come take part."
The campaign is among several events that will lead into the run, scheduled for September 15th and it will begin at College Avenue Secondary School.
The Terry Fox Kickoff Campaign goes from 7:00 to 10:30 pm.
