Oxford County Council will be conducting a comprehensive review of tax ratios for the 2016 year.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Council approved the tax ratios for the 2015 year. Council also directed staff to undertake a comprehensive review of the tax ratios scheme for the following year. Mayor of East-Zorra Tavistock Don McKay hopes the review will yield some answers. "So county council today passing a by-law to set our tax ratios my concern is that we should invest staff time and council time looking at the multi-tax ratio for next year."
McKay argued that currently multi-residential is taxed more than 2.5 times what the average single unit tax ratio.
"So for the multi-residential it's 2.74% so when you consider your home at $200,000 what you're paying in taxes if that were a multi-residential unit at that same value they are paying 2.74 times that much."
"It's high in relation to our neighbours and if it were lowered which we have the authority to do, would it stimulate more units that would be multi-residential units that would lead to more affordable housing?"
