There are a number of ways you can show your support for the people Humboldt in Woodstock, including a fundraiser at Boston Pizza in Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK - The hockey world is still reeling today after the tragic collision involving a bus and a transport in Saskatchewan.
15 members of the Humboldt Broncos died in the crash including players, coaches and the play by play broadcasters. People across the County are showing their support to the families and friends of those killed by sharing photo's of hockey sticks and candles on their front porches. A lot of people are sharing their photo's on social media using the #putyoursticksout.
In Woodstock the local Boston Pizza has started collecting donations for the Humboldt Bronco's. Anyone who stops by the restaurant with a donation will receive a $5 off coupon for their next Boston Pizza visit. The restaurant is also donating 10 percent of their proceeds between 5 and 8 p.m on Thursday night.
Owner Megan Porter explains why she wanted to do something to help.
"I think that this horrible tragedy has hit home with all of us. We can all imagine in our lives, that this could of touched us, whether we are hockey parents, whether we have siblings who played hockey as children or played hockey and traveled on buses, we a know that this could affect any one of us any day. So it has touched us in sort of a visceral way. For us we have a sports bar, we sort of live our lives around sports schedules and hockey is very important to us as an organization as a business, as our Boston Pizza Woodstock family."
Thursday is also Jersey Day where people are encouraged to wear their hockey jerseys to honour the memory of the fallen Bronco's players and coaches. Boston Pizza is taking part and are having a dress down fundraiser with staff who can pay $5 to wear a jersey to work that day instead of their regular uniform. Porter says they are hoping to raise $1,000 this week.
"We would have done the jersey night anyway but we had one our regular guests come to us last night, asking us to set a goal of $1,000 and he got the ball rolling by donating $250."
You can support the Humboldt Broncos through Boston Pizza or directly through the GoFundMe page here.
