Cash prizes are up for grabs for students in Woodstock through a challenge from the Environmental Advisory Committee
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock Environmental Advisory Committee is inviting local schools and students to take part in the Environmental Make Over Challenge.
Students will be encouraged to submit proposals on ways to improve your school's ecological footprint. Mayor Trevor Birtch tells Heart FM what they are looking for in the proposals.
"Come up with some great ideas on how they can recycle old products or create plans that will help save energy both at their school and in their home. It's about getting them looking at all the different things that make our environment sustainable and better for everybody from air quality, to how we handle waste, and how we consume things."
$500 cash prizes will be given out to the top two winning proposals. All submissions must be received by March 11th 2016. Birtch says it is important to get our kids thinking green at an early age.
"It's the youth that are going to drive the change for the future and I know in my own household that way that I handle our waste and recycling - I learn a lot from the children and they challenge myself and my wife to do a better job of being the stewards for the future."
