Students at St Michael's handed out speeding tickets
WOODSTOCK - The children at St Micheals School on Devonshire are bringing the focus of drivers speeding in school zones to our attention.
The students are using Police Radar to check the speed of drivers through the area this week.
"What we are conducting is what we call a Student Radar Program and it's just a program we do with the grade six classes. We talk to them about the radar, how it works and then we bring them outside and measure the speed of some vehicles and stop them. There are some tickets made up by the kindergarten classes and they're going to hand them to drivers and let them know 'you're in a school zone'" says Constable Steve McEwen.
"There's speeding in every area across the city. These and students of St Michael's so it's a perfect location. Yes, we do have speeders here. Officers patrols this for radar all the time. There's always somebody speeding."
"It is a 40km an hour zone in this location. Today, they get a reminder to slow down and drive safe."
