You have until the end of August to submit your favourite recipe for the DASO cookbook.
OXFORD COUNTY - Domestic Abuse Services Oxford is bringing back a special fundraiser.
The emergency shelter is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and it's planning on selling cookbooks ahead of the holiday season.
But first they need recipes to go in the cookbook, so that's why Fundraising and Communications Coordinator Sophie Foster is putting a call out to the community.
"We want to have good stuff like macaroni and cheese, pasta, and rice, but we also want the fun appetizers, sides, and desserts. We're going to try to make it a big general cookbook and try and include as much as we can from community members."
She adds the recipe submissions can also include personal stories.
"If you have a story to do with DASO or maybe someone you're connected with does, we would love to hear how this recipe or how you're connected. That helps bring the heart and soul into the cookbook."
All submissions have to be e-mailed to sophie@daso.ca before the end of August. Foster says they're hoping to have the cookbook done in October and on sale in November, just in time for the holiday season.
DASO put a cookbook together for its 25th anniversary back in 1999, titled Me and My Friends at My Kitchen Table. It was a big hit, and that's why they've decided to make a new cookbook for the 50th anniversary.
Lee Lakeman started DASO out of her home back in 1975 on a volunteer basis. The women's shelter now has upwards of 30 employees and it also offers outreach services, in addition to its 17 beds for women in crisis. You can find more information about DASO online here.
