Women's Fastball teams from across southern Ontario are flocking to Innerkip this weekend. Play begins tonight in the annual Gord Marshall Memorial Fastball Tournament. The 4-day tournament is in memory of the late Gord Marshall, an Innerkip Umpire who died of cancer in 2003. Proceeds from the event go to the Canadian Cancer Society. So far the tournament, in its history, has raised an impressive $75,200. The tournament includes a silent auction, 50-50 draws, BBQ food, ice cream and a beer tent. On the field, umpire and one of the organizers, Kyle Smith says it will be competitive fastball. "We've added a few more teams in Tier 1 and have shrunk the Tier 2, but all-in-all, it's going to be a great weekend of fastball, competitive fastball. We're trying to make it the best tournament in Ontario." The opening ceremony is set for 8PM Friday, and closing ceremony and cheque presentation goes Sunday at 3PM. Play opens tonight at 6:30. Keep tuned to Heart FM throughout the weekend for scores from the tournament. Details are also available here.
