Over 400 people came out on Saturday to St. Marys High School in Woodstock to watch some amazing ladies basketball as the MacMaster Marauders beat the Fanshawe Falcons.
WOODSTOCK - It was a packed house at St. Marys on Saturday for the Inaugural Pink Ribbon Challenge ladies basketball game.
The MacMaster Marauders beat the Fanshawe Falcons 96-87 in a hard fought game.
Organizer Paul Martin says Over 400 people came out to the game, raising over $4,000 for breast cancer research.
"It was a great basketball game, Mac won 96-87, coaches, everybody was very happy with how the event was run and more importantly we raised $4,000 for the breast cancer campaign, which started this past weekend. Thank you to all the people in Woodstock, our sponsors and everyone in attendance, it was a great event and we very much appreciate everyone's participation."
Martin says the other goal of this event was to promote girls basketball as they tried to put together a U-14 girls team with the Oxford Attack.
"In fact the tryouts for the U-14 Oxford Attack girls team have already happened, the team has been selected and that was the other part of this idea we had, could we somehow get a girls team in that lower age group that would be able to participate in Provincial wide basketball and we did that as well. We are all very happy and very appreciative for everything that was done."
Martin says the crowd was really into the game the entire time and both teams want to come back next year.
