Employees with the Perth District Health Unit and the City of Stratford will compete in a pedometer challenge, to see who can get the most steps by the end of the month.
STRATFORD - A friendly competition is brewing between staff at the Perth District Health Unit and the City of Stratford.
Employees are being asked to compete in the pedometer challenge. Public Health Coordinator Catherine Horst explains how it works.
"Basically employees use a pedometer or some other kind of fitness tracker like a Fitbit and they record their steps and their physical activity each day and they log that onto a web site and then we see which organization has the highest average number of steps along with the highest level of participation and each organization will recognize their top individual stepper."
Last year the City of Stratford logged more steps, however the Health Unit had more staff participate. Horst tells Heart FM they just want to encourage everyone to get active.
"It's a way to encourage our employees to adopt healthy behaviours and participating with another workplace just adds that little bit of friendly competition and can encourage people to do even more physical activity."
She says they are hoping other businesses in the area will adopt this challenge. The challenge runs from September 12th to the 30th.
