Oxford's MPP is launching a petition calling on the government to stop running hydro rate reduction ads.
The Ontario Liberals' hydro ads have hit a sour note with Oxford's MPP.
Ernie Hardeman is introducing a petition calling on the government to stop running what he calls 'partisan ads paid for with tax payer money.'
"It's just terrible that they would spend that kind of money to tell people what's going to come in June, July, or August when we could in fact be using that money to provide more surgeries in hospitals or lower the hydro rates!"
Legislation changes in 2015 took oversight of government advertising out of the hands of the Auditor General, but Bonnie Lysyk has gone on record to say these ads would likely not have garnered approval under the old rules.
Hardeman says Lysyk shares his view on what those ads are really meant to do.
"She did look at them and said that in her opinion they were more a pat-on-the-back for the government than actually informing the public of anything the government was doing."
The Ontario Liberals argue that these ads are meant to help direct people to further information available online and help Ontarians plan their budgets for the future when the changes take effect according to the CBC.
Ernie Hardeman's petition can be found here or it can be signed in person at this office at 12 Perry Street.
