Oxford OPP are reminding drivers to be vigilant on the roads during the summer season.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford OPP are preaching safe driving habits as we get set for another busy summer on the highways.
As the warm weather approaches we will be seeing more young people on the road as they return from school for the summer and head out with their friends. With this in mind police want to remind drivers to be cautious of their speed, put down the cell phones, and give 100% of your focus to the road.
Constable Lisa Narancsik says when police give you a ticket, they are doing it for your safety. "Essentially what it comes down to is safety. We have rules from the time we are young people, whether it's in the home, at school, at work, the criminal code, the Highway Traffic Act - they're all to keep people safe and to keep things in order. So we have speed signs up for a reason; to promote safe travel at a safe speed."
Narancsik says they will be keeping a close eye on the highways this summer and watching for speeding and distracted drivers. You can also expect to see lots of roaming RIDE checks popping up all across the County.
OPP will be targeting the four major causes of fatalities on our roadways this summer: speeding, distracted driving, impaired driving, and not wearing a seat belt.
