Last year was one of the worst years in recent memory for motorcycle fatalities in Ontario and already OPP have responded to 4 fatal collisions in 2021.
OXFORD COUNTY - Spring has officially arrived and this means you will notice more and more motorcycles on the road.
Already the OPP have responded to 4 fatal motorcycle collisions this year. Police are urging riders and other motorists to a avoid a repeat of last years tragic motorcycle season.
Last year was one of the worst riding seasons in recent memory, with 42 motorcyclists killed on OPP patrolled roads. For comparisons sake, they had 27 fatalities in 2019.
Chief Superintendent with the OPP Highway Safety Division Rohan Thompson says two of this seasons motorcycle fatalities were linked to excessive speed.
"Aggressive and careless driving have no place on our roads, especially where motorcycles are involved. The OPP urges motorcyclists and other drivers to share the road safely and be alert. Motorcyclists are reminded to always ride responsibly, sober and drug-free, and to make themselves visible to other motorists. May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. Please help make it a safe riding season."
Excessive speed and failing to yield right-of-way are the main factors linked to most motorcycle deaths.
