Residents can now use the internet to report crimes to local OPP.
OXFORD COUNTY - Know of crime but you don't need police to attend the scene?
The Ontario Provincial Police can now help you out with that.
They have developed a new online crime reporting feature on their website called Citizen Self Report.
Oxford OPP Constable Lisa Narancsik says "anything that doesn't involve injury, does not have a suspect or evidence that may be applicable so theft under $5000, mischief or damage to property under $5000, mischief or damage to a vehicle under $5000, theft to a vehicle or lost of missing property" can be reported online.
Narancsik says there are many benefits to this.
"It may be able to free up officers to be dealing with other things and it will allow us to plot trends or things that may be happening that maybe the public generally hasn't reported in the past."
"It asks for all the information that they will need to be able to file a report because these things will be reviewed by police officers to make sure that the fields have been completed and the information is accurate so if it seems that they need to contact the people with regards to missing information then they may either phone them or email them to conduct some kind of follow up."
