Three people have filed their nomination paperwork so far.
NORWICH TOWNSHIP - This is a last call for those thinking about running for the Ward 1 council seat in Norwich Township.
All of the nomination paperwork must be filled out and brought back to the Township office by 2:00 p.m. this Friday.
You must be a Canadian citizen who is at least 18 years old in order to run. You also have to live in Norwich Township or be a non-resident owner or tenant of land. This also applies to just Norwich Township in general, you don't have to be located in Ward 1 specifically to run for the Ward 1 council seat.
Ward 1 covers the southern portion of the Township, including the communities of Otterville and Springford. John Scholten served as the Ward 1 councilor for about nine years, before he officially retired at the end of 2023 due to personal and family reasons.
Three people are currently listed as candidates on the Township's website: Valerie Haley, Karl Toews, and Roy King. We have reached out to all these candidates, so we can write up profile stories about them ahead of election day.
Residents will head to the polls on Monday, May 6th.
