Woodstock Police have wrapped up their investigation into former Woodstock Chamber GM Martha Dennis.
The Investigation into a former general manager of the Woodstock District Chamber of Commerce has come to a close
No charges have been laid against Martha Dennis who was accused of misappropriating funds within the Chamber. The chamber fired Dennis in August 2016 over the allegations.
President Paul Chambers says he was surprised to hear the charges were dropped.
"I was a little bit surprised by it but at the same token we have primarily been dealing with a lawyer out of London, so I mean it's not like we were hands on all the time, we would defer stuff to the lawyer, he would give us advice, we would discuss and then went back to the lawyer, so that's kind of how the communication chain went."
The 2016 financial statements released by the Chamber showed that they had over $30,000 in extraordinary expenses that could not be explained. Chambers says they have measures in place to make sure this never happens again.
"We live in a small community that is built on trust, unfortunately in this case here, there was a breach of that trust and so we at the Chamber have changed our policies and procedures to prevent this from happening again, it's just unfortunate that something like this had to happen for us to do that."
