The NHL Coaches Association has developed a program to help females take the next step in getting to the pros.
ST. THOMAS - Female hockey coaches are being exposed to a great resource.
St. Thomas Minor Hockey coach, Shannon Wise says she has a passion for hockey and currently coaches the U11 A boys team. Wise talks about what the program is all about.
"The NHL Coaches Association developed this female hockey program 5 years ago, essentially to give a platform and networking opportunity to young females who want to get into the professional side of coaching in the hockey world."
The program will allow the coaches involved to participate in video conferences with current professional coaches. Wise says there is a connection to the Friendly City within the program.
"A friend of mine, who I played Junior Devilettes with, Kelly Paton, who is from Woodstock, she is also in this year 5 program."
Wise says that to become a part of the program, you apply yourself and submit your coaching and hockey resume along with a description of why you to become a part of it and what you expect to get out of it.
You can get all the information on the program by visiting the NHLCA website.
