A member of the Local NDP has been selected as the New Democratic Youth Southwestern representative for the party.
OXFORD COUNTY - A rising political star from Oxford County has been selected to be the Ontario New Democratic Youth Southwest Rep.
Mason Cox was selected at an NDP convention last week. Cox explains what got him interested in politics.
"When Oxford had their youth suicide crisis, it was a very formulating moment for me, knowing that something was wrong in our province and something was wrong in our Country, because no one in our Province, especially our youth should feel they need to take their own life. I started getting involved in that and I quickly realized that it was a lot more than a broken mental health system and everything in politics affects are youth today and so I joined the NDP to force some change."
Cox wants to push youth issues in Southwestern Ontario. He explains some of the aspects of his new role.
"I will be planning events between the riding associations in Southwestern Ontario to push youth issues to the forefront of the party. Particularly in Oxford and how that will affect us, is we can actually send more messaging in regards to youth in Oxford about their issues. I am very happy to represent Oxford and Southwestern Ontario to the Provincial party. I will also be able to bring more Oxford youth along, whoever wants to get involved to tag along with me on this journey."
Cox received unanimous support for this position at the convention last week.
