Over 2,000 boxes of menstrual hygiene products have been distributed to 19 local organizations.
OXFORD COUNTY - Tampon Tuesday was a huge hit this year!
The annual campaign through United Way Oxford collects donations of menstrual hygiene products to distribute to local organizations in order to address period poverty in our community.
The big event was on Tuesday March 5th, with networking events at the Kelsey’s Original Roadhouse restaurant locations in Woodstock and Tillsonburg. The Shoppers Drug Mart locations in Woodstock, Ingersoll, Tillsonburg, and Norwich also collected donations for several weeks.
Resource Development Manager Amanda Kreiger says this year's campaign was their most successful to date.
"Right now we are just over 2,000 boxes which is almost 500 boxes more than what we had last year which is awesome and there's still more to come in!"
All of the donations have been distributed to 19 local organizations including the Fusion Youth Centre, Stitch Supper Club, Domestic Abuse Services Oxford, Ingamo Homes, Operation Sharing, Oxford County Community Health Centre, Tillsonburg Multi-Service Centre, Cycles of Life, and the local food banks Woodstock, Tillsonburg, Ingersoll and Norwich.
Kreiger says the cash donations the campaign brought in will also come in handy.
"So we get the boxes of menstrual hygiene products right now and we get them out into the community, but throughout the year those stock piles deplete. So we received almost $600 in cash donations which will help us continue throughout the year to provide those supplies when they're needed."
You can still donate to the cause online through the United Way Oxford website. Just select Tampon Tuesday in the Direct this Donation drop down menu.
