County to look at future improvements to Mill St.
One of Woodstock's most heavily used streets could be in for a facelift.
Oxford County is looking at making improvements to Mill St., from Dundas all the way to the 401.
An Environmental Assessment has been initiated and Public Works Director Rob Walton says all options will be considered. "We'll look at the whole length of the street and where the issues are, and where the improvements can come. It's definitely a phased project, not the sort of thing where you do everything at once. There could be a number of projects there that we'll identify and lay out the time frames for."
Some of those projects could involve added lanes, intersection improvements, and new traffic signals.
Walton says one intersection in particular needs to be improved. "Mill and Dundas, we all know some of the constraints there and we need to look at what improvements could be facilitated there." Dundas and Mill has a perennial position in Woodstock's list of the top 10 crash prone intersections.
A public meeting is set for March 6th at the Oxford County Administration Building.
Walton says they are hoping for plenty of public input on how to improve Mill St. "Their input is very valuable. They know a lot of things about the character and use of the street that we as County Public Works...we know the operations of it, but we don't live there. We drive it frequently, but it's not quite the same as living there."
