Library Budget Proposal

The Woodstock Library is asking the city for additional funds in their 2014 budget proposal for building maintenance and staffing costs.

The Woodstock Library Board is asking the city for $84,000 more in their revenue budget for 2014. 

The library presented the $2.3 million budget to city council on l got a look at the proposed $2.3 million budget Thursday night.

Library Chief Executive Officer Gary Baumbach said the environment of the library is changing very rapidly.

"We are find that our data processing needs are becoming increasingly costly. People enjoy our technology but they also expect it to be reliable and to be there," Baumbach said, "in order to do that you need good maintenance, good maintenance contracts to maintain that and within that budget there was some money to do that as well."

The proposed budget sets aside an additional $29,000 for building maintenance and collections and $55,000 for salaries and benefits.

"It's very labour intensive to run the library so we're always trying to support the staff by having a strong staffing component there to offer exceptional customer service."

Council will vote on the budget next month.
