Saputo is teaming up with KidSport Canada, in order to give all Canadian kids the opportunity to participate in local sports.
NORWICH TOWNSHIP - Some kids in Norwich Township are going to reap the benefits of a new partnership between KidSport and Saputo.
Saputo is donating $600,000 to the national youth organization, in order to give all young athletes the opportunity to participate in sports.
The money will be divided out their provincial branches, before being sent to the local chapters.
Darren Dayman is the President of the Norwich Division. He says they are one of the smaller groups, but they help a decent amount of kids.
"Anywhere from 15 to 25 (kids) each year. It comes in spurts with the seasons; we get a few applications for things like hockey, baseball season, soccer. We've also done some for dance, gymnastics and a few other things."
Dayman is looking forward to the extra funding heading his way.
"We rely solely on fundraising and donations either locally or through the provincial and Canadian bodies. So we don't receive funds from anywhere other than donations and fundraisers that we do."
In order to receive KidSport funding, the child's guardians must meet certain financial requirements. They also have to submit a written endorsement from a local professional, whether it be their family doctor or the child's student.
