It was the first Brier tournament for Jayden King and his rink, which saw them make the playoffs.
TILLSONBURG - The Montana's Brier in St. John's had Oxford County flair.
Team Ontario was skipped by Jayden King, whose home club is the Tillsonburg Curling Club. He says there were struggles early in the week that they battled through to get wins, and he mentioned that playing Brad Gushue and Brad Jacobs was a massive learning experience. King was happy with the week, but says there is still more to do.
"Trying to solidify ourselves as a team to reckon with by qualifying for the slams and having another solid appearance next year. We really want to take this experience and build off of it; we don't want to rest on our laurels."
King adds the support they felt was over the top from everywhere across the province and country. He felt like the team had a good first experience and showing at the Brier.
"So, it was great to see our growth throughout the week really lead to a playoff experience, which is a great experience that we probably didn't expect in our first prior, but we knew we were capable of."
King and his rink finished the round robin with a record of 5-3, which put them 3rd in Pool A. Once the playoffs hit, they took on Brad Gushue and Team Newfoundland and Labrador in the 3 vs. 4 Page Qualifier. King's rink fell by the score of 12-6.
